Patrick Nan Shin founded one of Hawaii’s largest building enterprises, Nan Inc. He established the Honolulu-based company that bears his name in the early 1990s.

He always envisioned himself as a successful businessman. Quickly becoming a reality was previously just a fantasy. In 2022, his construction firm in Hawaii will have employed over 500 workers. In Hawaii, he has had a significant impact on a wide range of people’s daily lives.

Patrick Shin has ancestors from South Korea in his family tree (his real Korean name is actually Nan Chul Shin). Since relocating to Hawaii, he has adopted a new surname. After this, he hopes to have a positive impact on Hawaii’s future. Many years after it was first conceived as a childish fantasy, the dream has become a reality.

Things didn’t always go well on the path forward, of course. With a lot of enthusiasm and zeal, Patrick got his start working on minor building projects. He watched as his business expanded each year. The absence of workers was also present from the outset. Aside from himself, there was just one other employee there.

WHAT HIS BUSINESS IS ALL ABOUT

For those in the building trade, Nan Inc. is a household name. They have won multimillion dollar contracts from the government. They, like so many other businesses, had humble beginnings. For their first job, they were hired to put up a road sign.

It’s the little victories that pave the way for the big ones, and following this, Patrick Shin felt fired up and ready to take on more ambitious tasks. His building business flourished because of his dogged determination.
